Team members from Mapex attended the 74th Annual JAST conference at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. JAST celebrated its 75th anniversary of stellar contribution to the Sugar Industry by focusing on the technical and production sides of the Industry. Over the course of the conference Mapex met with several important players in the agricultural industry of Jamaica and, through several panels and discussions, participated in developing solutions and plans for both the challenges and opportunities available in the Sugar Industry in Jamaica. Mapex’s Executive Chairman, Richard Powell Sr., served as Chairperson for some of the panels and papers presented, and was asked to host the banquet reception as emcee. Mapex took the opportunity to exhibit some of the products offered to the Jamaican sugar industry at the annual conference, and was also one of the major sponsors of the event. President & CEO, Josef Powell, had the following comments on the conference: “These annual conferences are an excellent resource for us here at Mapex, as it is perhaps the only time throughout the year that such a wide variety of participants in the sugar industry convene in one place. We always look forward to the usual positive exchange of ideas that comes from these events, and use it as a forum to show our support to the small, medium sized, and large farmers throughout the country. We also send a sincere welcome the new players in the industry, particularly the Everglades Farms and Pan Caribbean Sugar Company teams, and wish them the best of luck.” Mapex will be present at the 75th annual conference, scheduled to take place at the same time in November, 2012.
